Anna Leigh Ashford
Annaleigh Amanda Ashford (born April 14, 1980) is an American actor, singer and dancer. Her first roles on Broadway include the musicals Wicked Legally Blonde and Hair. In the musical, Hair. Tony Award was given to Ashford for her role as Essie Carmichael from You Can't Take It With You. Annaleigh, Tony Award-winning actress as well as director, has spent the bulk of her professional career working alongside famous directors and actors both on screen and in television. Ashford is scheduled to be in the role of Kumail Nanjiani, on Robert Siegel's Hulu exclusive Welcome to Chippendales. It will premiere on 22nd November. Ashford's upcoming project includes the Searchlight Pictures horror thriller Dust, starring alongside Sarah Paulson and Ebonmoss-Bachrach. This film is part of a Hulu Original and will be streaming on Disney DTC. Ashford will be returning in 2023 and will be starring opposite Josh Groban at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre for the return of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. Thomas Kail, director and producer of Hamilton will direct the production. Ashford's most recent part was that of Paula Jones on Ryan Murphy FX's American Crime Story Impeachment. The series is based on a National scandal that featured Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky, and Linda Tripp. In two seasons, Ashford played a prominent role in CBS's hit series B Positive. It was created by Marco Pennette Chuck Lorre with the famous Linda Lavin Hector Elizondo Ben Vereen. Ashford, who is not unfamiliar with Broadway was awarded both Tony Drama Desk Awards as well as Outer Critics Circle Awards in her role as Essie. Sunday in the Park with George Wicked legally blonde and the character that was originally played by Lauren In Kinky Boots were among her other Broadway roles. Ashford divides her time between Los Angeles & New York. Her birthplace was in Denver & raised there.
